Tonight's match preview

MI vs CSK - captain pick, differential, and the toss call.

Match conditions

The Wankhede pitch has averaged 184 in the last six evening fixtures, with the chasing side winning four of those. Toss call: bowl first, take advantage of the dew in the second innings.

Captain pick

Suryakumar Yadav. Owns the CSK spinners historically - 158 strike rate against left-arm spin in IPL 2025, and a venue strike rate of 165 at Wankhede since 2023. Ownership sits around 28% - low enough to be a differential, high enough that the case is well-reasoned.

Differential captain

Ravindra Jadeja. Batting promotion likely at number four, and his bowling at the death against MI's right-hand heavy middle order has worked twice this season. Ownership 9%.

Bowler to watch

Matheesha Pathirana. Death-overs economy of 7.4 in IPL 2025. Yorkers at the Wankhede square boundary are his best length against MI's left-handers. Ownership 41%.

Avoid

Trent Boult. Powerplay wickets are down across the season on flatter decks, and two of his last three Wankhede outings went at economy 9.6 or worse.

How we build a prediction

A short methodology note.

Inputs

Venue scoring averages from the last six completed seasons. Player form over the last ten innings. Role-specific match-up data - batter vs bowler type, bowler vs batter handedness. Likely-XI projections based on the latest press conference signals and the published squad list.

Process

Predictions are written 24 hours before the toss, then revised within 30 minutes of the toss once likely-XI is confirmed. The captain pick is the player we would back across a 100-entry contest sample. The differential captain is the player we would back when the contest sample is large enough that differential swings the rank.

Limits

Predictions are best read as a starting framework, not a final answer. Late team-news, unexpected pitch behaviour, dew factor changes and individual match-day form swings all change the picture after publication.

FAQ

Five common questions about predictions.

How accurate are your captain picks?
Across the 2025 season our most-confident captain pick (one per match) returned an average of 84 fantasy points per match. The league average for a top-order captain pick over the same period was 61.
Do you ever change predictions after publication?
Yes - within 30 minutes of the toss once likely-XI is confirmed. We rewrite the captain pick section when the announced XI differs materially from our projection.
Are predictions free?
Yes. Match previews and captain picks are free to read. We do not run a paid tips service and we do not sell insider information.
Do you use paid data sources?
No. Predictions are built from public data only - scorecards, venue records, player form, and the published squad list.
What is your prediction track record on differential picks?
Differential captain picks returned a positive rank-points swing on 14 of the 28 matches we called across the 2025 season. The other 14 returned a neutral or negative swing, often because the differential pick underperformed on the day.
